Bloemfontein in Dutch and Afrikaans means "flower spring", “Bloem spring” or "fountain of flowers" is the capital city of Free State Province in South Africa. Bloemfontein's popular name is “the Rose City”. This South African city is 1,395 meters above sea level with a population of less than 0.4 million and far from the largest African city. The city was founded in 1846 as a British outpost. The Bloemfontein to Cape Town railway line was constructed in 1890. Till 1994, this famous African city was the only South African capital of South Africa. Even now it is the seat of Supreme Court Of Appeal and is considered the judicial capital. It is administrative center too of repute with with educational institutes and hospitals. Bloemfontein has oceanic climate with summer days hot and cooler, dry winters often frosty. It also snows sometimes. Bloemfontein's climate makes it one the best world cities.

The city has several good schools with the most renowned being Eunice Girls' High School and Grey College close to one another. In sports and entertainment, there is the Bloemfontein Off Road Club Motocross track and Bloemfontein Kart Club's M&F Raceway kart circuit. Then there is Bloemfontein Zoo and Boyden Observatory an astronomical and educational center on the fringe of the city.
