Durban while not South Africa capital or the largest African city is the second most populated city of South. Durban city is the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal. It is famous African city as the most crowded port in Africa. It is also popular with tourists because of its warm subtropical climate and beaches which also makes it one of best African city. The city has a population between 3.2 and 3.5 million and as it has a large land area, its population density is much lower.
The first written record is when Portuguese explorer in 1497 Vasco da Gama landed on Natal coast on Christmas, and named Natal or Christmas in Portuguese. The Durban of today is from Durban of 1824, when 25 persons under F. G. Farewell, a British Lieutenant made a northern shore settlement of the Natal Bay near what is Farewell Square today. In the second half of the nineteenth century, to work in the sugar cane industry, the British brought a lot of of indentured Indian laborers from India on five-year contracts and as a result, Durban became the largest Asian community in South Africa. Durban today is biggest busiest container port of Africa, the ninth busiest port, of world, much touted tourist destination and amongst the top best cities in Africa.
