Johannesburg

Johannesburg is the largest African city in South Africa, bigger than even the South Africa capital. Johannesburg is Gauteng's provincial capital, the wealthiest province in South Africa. This best African city is one of 40 biggest metropolitan areas in the world, and famous African city as it is regarded as Africa's only global city. Johannesburg has South African Constitutional Court, South Africa's highest court. Johannesburg has big gold and diamond trade from the nearby mineral rich Witwatersrand hill range. Johannesburg being served by Tambo O.R. International Airport, the biggest and busiest hub airport in Africa and rest of southern Africa. Many also say that Johannesburg is best African city. The city population is more than three million with that of Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Area being almost eight million. The population of the Johannesburg also encompasses Soweto in south west, the famed and notorious township from the apartheid days. Johannesburg is one of the best cities in Africa and also one of the best world cities.

Gold was first discovered in Barberton to east of present-day Johannesburg. Gold prospectors also discovered that there were richer gold reefs in the Witwatersrand. Gold was discovered at Langlaagte in 1886. People until then small number of peepal and Bantu people
were overtaken by European settlers. Johannesburg was first a suburb of Pretoria as to build a house in Johannesburg one had to get Pretoria government permission.
