Belgrade in Europe is the capital city of Serbia and also the country’s largest city. In 1841 it regained the status and in the 20th century Belgrade was made the capital of a number of Yugoslavian incarnations. In 2006, Serbia again got the status of an independent state.
Belgrade functions with its own autonomous government body. The territory of Belgrade is configured into 17 municipalities. Belgrade is the heart of the Serbian culture, science and education. Belgrade which is considered one of the best cities in Europe is recognized as the most economically developed region of Serbia. Belgrade is also a premiere tourist destination. The city of Belgrade is dotted with historic sites and old buildings. Some of the prominent among them are the National Museum, National Theatre, the Temple of Saint Sava, the Kalemegdan Fortress, the Parliament, and the Old Palace. Then there are numerous parks, cafés, restaurants and shops to keep one busy with fun all the day long.
The famous Avala Monument offers great city view. Josip Broz Tito's mausoleum which is popularly known as Kuca Cveca which means “the House of Flowers” attracts a number of visitors. Lakes Ada and Sava are also quite popular destinations there. The sports like golf, basketball, football, volleyball, baseball, rugby union and tennis are the favorite sports of the city.
