The city of Berne which is known to be one of the best cities in Europe is located in Switzerland. Berne in Europe has a population of around 140,000 people and is ranked the fourth amongst the most populated cities of Switzerland. The people of Berne mostly speak German or Bernese German which follows the high-Alemannic dialect. Berne is the capital of Canton of Berne. Out of all the cantons in Switzerland, Canton of Berne is the second largest. One of the best recognized symbols of the city is the Zytglogge clock tower. The clock has moving puppets. It is a Gothic cathedral which dates back to the 15th century. It also has a town hall. Bern, one of the best world cities in is located on the Swiss plateau which is a part of the Canton of Berne. It is towards the western part of the central Switzerland. In the last Ice age, the landscapes surrounding Berne were covered by glaciers. Mountains lying close to Berne are the Gurten which is measured to be at a height of 858 meters and the Bantiger of height 947 meters. Berne is a city of colorful culture.
Berne is a tourist hotspot and this attracts a number of tourists throughout the year. Berne is also a shopper’s paradise. A Bernese bear is one of the most renowned shopping promenades of Berne. The city centre of Berne still keeps up the spirit of history with its old world charms with the medieval buildings and streets. This part of Berne is also a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site. The Garden of Roses, known there as the Rosengarten, offers a panoramic view of the medieval city centre. The Rosengarten is a beautifully maintained garden perched on a hill top. It has been converted into a park in 1913. Earlier it used to be a cemetery.
