Copenhagen is ranked amongst the best world cities. It is also one of the best cities in Europe. Copenhagen in Europe is the capital city of Denmark. Copenhagen is the largest city of the country and also the country’s political heart. It houses the seat of the government, national parliament, as well as the monarchy. After the transnational Oresund Bridge was completed in the year 2000, Copenhagen and Malmö became linked by road and rail route. In the year 2007, Copenhagen was listed amongst the Top 20 Most Liveable Cities Chart by the Monocle magazine. The original name of the city – Kjøbmandehavn was the derivation of a Dutch name which meant “merchants’ harbor”. However, the city got its English name from a Low German word- Kopenhagen. The Latin name of the city is Hafnia, after which an element has been named.
Copenhagen is classified into several municipalities out of which the largest is the Copenhagen municipality and the second largest is the Frederiksberg municipality. The Copenhagen city in Denmark, Europe is situated in the eastern shore of the Zealand island. It partly is located on the Amager island. Towards the east, Copenhagen faces Oresund in the east. This is the strait which separates Denmark and Sweden and links the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Copenhagen also comes under the region of Oresund.
Even though the city of Copenhagen is quite costly, it has been rated one of the best cities to live in. Accommodation here is comparatively low than in London and Paris. Sexual discrimination is nil in this city and crime against women here is very rare. There are many festivals that are celebrated here out of which the Copenhagen Jazz Festival held in summer is quite popular. Large number of tourists flock into this city each year.
