Frankfurt which is one of the best cities in Europe and among the best world cities happens to be the biggest in the German state of Hesse. Frankfurt city in Germany, Europe had a significant role to play in the political history of the country. The period between 855 to 1792 saw Frankfurt as the electoral city that was designated by the Holy Roman Empire Emperors belonging to the nation. During the revolutions of 1848-49 revolutions, Frankfurt became the revolutionary capital. It became politically important and was the seat of the democratic German parliament and the Frankfurt Parliament. The city’s economy is majorly governed by trade fairs, transport and finance.
Frankfurt, has a superb network of transport and communication. The International Airport is a major European aviation hub. Frankfurt Airport is one of the top ten airports in the world. The airport connects 304 destinations across 110 countries. It is the one of the busiest airports in Europe along with the Charles de Gaulle of Paris and London Heathrow Airport. Each year, big trade fairs are held in this part of the country, the notable amongst which are the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung and the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. All these fairs draw thousands of tourists.
Many a times Frankfurt is also called “Bankfurt” or “Mainhattan” or even the “The Big Äppel”. Frankfurt is amongst the four European cities that which has so many skyscrapers. It also houses the tallest skyscraper in the European Union.
