Madrid which is the capital city and also the biggest city of Spain, is notably one of the best cities in Europe. The actual name of this city, as called by the citizens here is ‘Madrileños’. Still ‘Madrid’ remains the popularly used name. Located in the heart of Spain, Madrid is situated on the river Manzanares nestled between Castile-La Mancha and Castile and León. Legend has it, that Madrid was discovered by Ocno Bianor, the son of the King Tyrrhenius of Tuscany and Mantua. It was initially named Mantua Carpetana or Metragirta. Many believe the city was called Ursaria which in Latin meant “land of bears” in Latin and it was so named because of the hight population animals that existed in the adjacent forests. This with the Madrone tree used to be the city’s emblem in the Middle Ages.
